IDAH TO GET AIRPORT SOON

In what could be termed as his most daring move since assumption of office, the Atta of Igala is bent on constructing an airport in Idah and very soon. 

You will recall that Igala NA during the reign of Ameh Oboni had constructed an aerodrome where small carrier planes could operate from. The aerodrome however stopped functioning several years back for reasons that may not necessarily be disassociated from non-usage.

The old aerodrome located along Idah - Ogbogbo road is now wearing a different look as work has since commenced on it in a bid to developing it to a standard local airport.

The question that comes to the mind of anybody who hears this news is whether it is a project of the Government of Kogi State. We reliably gathered that the State Government has no stake in the airport project. We do not know if the State Government would decide to contribute or even take over the construction of the airport in the future; but as it stands today, the project can best be described as a community effort of the Igala Kingdom headed by the Atta.

The question that remains unanswered is on the legality of such a community project and possible recognition and approvals from necessary government bodies.

The Atta who happens to have served in an air related department in the past is not bordered about possible bottlenecks as he is convinced that soon, planes will start landing and taking off from Idah.

His conviction is obvious in his conduct as he was  at a point practically operating from the site. He will come as early as 9 am and remain there till late in the day. One of such days was the day we visited the site and as expected, we met him right there.He has even built a hut where he stays to oversee the construction work going on.

Though experts have said they have their reservations about the construction of the airport, it is important that we encourage the conviction of the Atta towards such a laudable project. 

By the way, people are reported to have been making contributions to this project. If all you can afford is moral and prayer supports, please don’t fail to render same.  Maybe we can get it right this time.
